Presbyterian Women Missions

First Quarter: Battered Women's Shelter and Plaza Place.

The Battered Women's Shelter offers a temporary safe place for women and their children who are battered and abused. PW supports the shelter by collecting necessity items such as diapers, toiletry items, soap, combs, hair brushes, deodorant, lotion, wash cloths, towels, toothpaste and toothbrushes. Plaza Place provides homeless families and women secure transitional housing and comprehensive services that encourage self-sufficiency. PW supports Plaza Place by collecting household and necessity items such as pots and pans, dishes, detergent, toilet paper, Kleenex, sheets and towels. Contributions can be made through a circle or can be dropped off at the Church office.

Second Quarter: Bright Blessings & Loaves & Fishes

Bright Blessings is a local, volunteer-led nonprofit that serves homeless children and families across the Charlotte region.  Operating two programs, Bless-A-Birthday program celebrates birthdays for children at homeless shelters and housing facilities, and also provides birthday packages anonymously to transient homeless students across CMS.  We go beyond the birthday with out educational and enrichment activities, by distributing new books, and by providing comfort and care bags for the homeless kids we serve.  Bless-A-Baby program supports the emergent needs of babies born into homelessness as they arrive at shelters.  We provide baskets filled with critical-care essentials, clothing and blankets, supplies and gifts-items to help homeless babies get a healthier and more positive start to life.  We are the only organization providing these programs and services to homeless children across our community.

Bright Blessings - Volunteer Suggestions

  • Bless-A-Birthday - Bright Blessings Student Birthday Project
  • Wish List Gifts for Teens (All items must be new.)

Loaves and Fishes provides groceries and support to people in crisis. PW supports Loaves and Fishes by collecting canned goods, peanut butter, and canned juice. Contributions can be made through a circle or can be dropped off at the Church office.

Third Quarter: Alexander Youth Network.

Alexander Youth Network is a treatment center for emotionally disturbed children ages 6-12. PW offers support by collecting school supplies and toiletries (tissues, hand lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant). Contributions can be made through a circle or can be dropped off at the Church office.

Fourth Quarter: Bazaar, Angel Tree and Alexander Youth Network Christmas Store.

The first Saturday of November, PW holds a bazaar in the Kerr Building. The Angel tree was started by PW in December 1994. Schools in the Mint Hill area and PALS (adult day care center for the elderly) provide a list of people with needs along with their wish list and clothing sizes. Angels are made from the list and placed on the Angel Tree in the Narthex. Members of our congregation select an angel(s) from the tree and buy presents from the wish list. Presents are wrapped and placed under the Angel Tree. PW contributes new children's clothing and toys to the Alexander Youth Network Christmas Store. The parents or guardians of the children residing at the home can pick out presents for the children from the Christmas Store. Contributions can be made through a circle or can be dropped off at the Church office.
