It is a fact that when you live in poverty, "good" economic times are often no better than bad times, and, when bad times come, those in poverty are the first to feel the effects. They lose employment during economic downturns and helping ministries experience cuts in funding at the very time the demands for service rise.

As we reflect on Jesus' words to his Disciples, "You feed them," we are aware of the growing numbers of our hungry sisters and brothers in the Charlotte Presbytery who are in need of emergency food. From hourly wage earners to executives, the economy is causing large numbers of lay-offs. Drought, and/or flooding are hurting our farmers in this area, and the helping agencies that receive 5 cents funds need even more assistance from us.

The Hunger Action Work Group asks each congregation to join in this "fight against hunger" by conscientiously supporting the 5 Cents-A-Meal program with 5cents a meal, 15cents a day, $1.05 a week, and $4.50 a month.

This Presbytery has the potential of raising approximately $2,300,000.00 each year! With that as our goal, consider the difference we could make to the helping agencies and our hungry sisters and brothers! WE CAN DO THIS! Jesus also tells us in Matthew 25, "In as much as you do it To one of the least of them, you do it unto me."
