Philadelphia Presbyterian Church Special Offerings

The 10 Cents a Meal offering is taken on the second Sunday of each month. The funds collected are used to fund hunger programs in the Charlotte area.
The One Great Hour of Sharing offering is collected during the Easter season.
The Pentecost Offering is collected during June.
The Blanket Offering is collected during the Thanksgiving season
The Joy Offering is collected during the Christmas season.

The Ten Cents a Meal offering is received on second Sundays.

The Five-Cents-A-Meal offering is now the Ten-Cents-A-Meal offering. The offering continues to be received on the second Sunday of each month to support hunger-fighting programs within the Presbytery of Charlotte bounds. The offering has been expanded beyond just providing food and to feeding the mind, body and spirit of people in our communities to include hunger related and “at-risk” youth programming.

Mission & Justice Hunger Action Workgroup

It is a fact that when you live in poverty, "good" economic times are often no better than bad times, and, when bad times come, those in poverty are the first to feel the effects. They lose employment during economic downturns and helping ministries experience cuts in funding at the very time the demands for service rise.

As we reflect on Jesus' words to his Disciples, "You feed them," we are aware of the growing numbers of our hungry sisters and brothers in the Charlotte Presbytery who are in need of emergency food. From hourly wage earners to executives, the economy is causing large numbers of lay-offs. Drought, and/or flooding are hurting our farmers in this area, and the helping agencies that receive 10 cents funds need even more assistance from us.

The Hunger Action Work Group asks each congregation to join in this "fight against hunger" by conscientiously supporting the 10 Cents-A-Meal program with 10 cents a meal.

What is the Tools & Blankets Program?
The Tools & Blankets Program is a special mission opportunity that can involve all ages. Some 8,000 congregations and groups across the US hold Tools & Blankets events, providing more than $3.7 million to help people in some 80 nations, including the US. The right tool at the right time can make a world of difference in the lives of children and families faced with an emergency or struggling to keep food on the table.
