Dear Friends,
May 11 is Pentecost Sunday, the day we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit to the people of God and the birthday of the church. The account of the first Day of Pentecost is found in Acts 2.
"When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability."
The following Prayer for Pentecost comes from the Book of Worship of the United Church of Christ.
We thank you, compassionate God,
that you sent your spirit
to encourage those whom Jesus left behind
that they might not be alone.
Through the comfort of your presence,
you empowered them to witness to your love.
Today we also seek the encouragement of your presence.
Do not leave us alone, O God,
but send your Spirit to us
that we may worship and serve you with joy;
through Jesus our crucified and risen Savior. Amen.
Please plan to be with us in worship on May 11, the Day of Pentecost. The Praise Team will be leading the early worship service.
Gratefully,
Chuck
